2003 - Troop
26 Committee
-
Pete Detmering / chair Treasurer’s report (addendum via email): Current balance: $4,616.39 Income since last meeting: $200.00 Donations (Shop
Rite and Medford-Vincentown Rotary, $100.00 each) Campout results: Fall Camporee $132.96
deficit Given the healthy state of the treasury going into 2003 I was going to suggest that we make camping fees a flat $10.00 this year and subsidize the balance. Respectfully submitted, Phil Gruender Decision: Committee Agreed to make fees $10 for 2003. Upcoming Activities & Responsibilities Discussed canceling the sleepover for the weekend due to the extreme cold expected and the current inexperience of troop to deal with same. Will make it a day trip – leave Sat 6am returing by 8pm Saturday night. Discussed Yawgoog coordinator – will ask Phil Gruender to do this. Will want to include the Battleship this year first night. We reviewed the calendar – the decisions / dates will all be reflected on the website. The 1st weekend of March will be a ‘checkout’ backpack for the March troop backpack trip – Bob Gray, Rich Lewis, Bill Dreisbach will all hike then – other adults welcome. Pinnacle trail: Point Clinton to Hamburg in PA. Rich Lewis handed out the Philmont crew training (dates will be posted on web) Seabase call-in will be Feb 3rd from 10-2 CST – 800-637-4950 – we should try to reserve a future date during this call-in. Relay for Life will be Jun 27-28. We will also try to do a canoe trip in June. We discussed all the other upcoming events as well. Equipment Needs considering anticipated membership growth Discussed replacement of the trailer – current one is ‘packed to the gills’. Need a larger replacement (at 5x10 now = 500 ftsq recommend a 6x12 = 720 ftsq). Costs were looked at as follows: 6x14 Dule - $2729 + $119 spare (1500 lbs) 6x12 Dule - $2619 + $119 spare (1500 lbs) 6x12 Haulmark - $2019 6x12 Homestead - $2139 Also another troop may buy current trailer for around $1000. Mr. Bob Gray and Mr. Rich Lewis both pledged $250 to fund this, others may donate as well. Decision: Committee voted OK to procure this trailer and sell the old one. Advancement / Rechartering report Troop is currently 49 adults and 41 scouts. Pack 108 crossover – Feb 8 (Rich Lewis, George Youngkin) Pack 300 crossover – Feb 8 also (noon – 4pm?) (Dave Costello, Jack Miller) Pack 22 crossover – Feb 16 – need adults to attend. Troop meeting venue Discussion about the need for another location on the Monday ‘basement’ nights. Also we need a swim night before upcoming whitewater trip. Other suggestions besides swimming include ice or roller skating, demonstrations at stores such as D&Q. We could use some more ideas here. Youth prepardness on weekend outings Currently rated poor – damp t-shirts don’t cut it in cold weather. Discussion about sending boys home if they aren’t prepared, and doing an equipment check before they leave. Decision: Add “I have checked son’s gear” to parent permission slip Youth Leadership Patrol leaders, senior/venture scouts. Need older scouts to chip in and help – boys relate to younger adults. Chris Doty volunteered to help. It was good to have Greg Lewis SPL at the meeting. Open Discussion Decision – approved Bill D. to purchase $65 for our ‘Domain name’ extension (www.troop26bsa.net) as it expires in Feb 2003. Bill asked that anyone not on the email list, to submit the addresses. Health Concerns – updated on those with issues including Sam, Kevin Durbin’s daughter, Susan Bishop Jones and others. Cindy Doty looked great! Adult training – May 28 – was Youth Protection, now ‘Risk Zone’ training. Seabase slot exists for Aug 6-13: Paul, Ed are adults, have 4 boys, can take 2 more boys. Rich Lewis discussed need for safe swim training – can do at next committee meeting ‘safety afloat’ for adults. NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING – March 5th, 2003, 7:30pm Meeting Adjourned Respectfully submitted – Bill Dreisbach |
