2003 - Troop
26 Committee Meeting Attending: Pete Detmering / chair, Greg Lewis (SPL), Rich Lewis, Ed Martino, Dave Costello, Bob Gray. Bill Dreisbach, George Youngkin, Bill Stiles, Phil Weber, Marianne McCarthy, Paul O'Connor (miss anyone?) Thanks to Bill Stiles for offering his office in Medford for the meeting. Treasurer's Report Discussed trailer – final cost was $2179 with spare. Sold old one to Troop 48 for $900. Budget 'fine' to pay for this per Pete. Fundraising: Art & Music Festival discussion We had decision to do this in '03 and give to troop 48 in '04 as Medford didn't want both troops at the Art & Music fundraising. Committee decided we'd rather do the fundraising at the Art & Music both years, and do the service "warming station" at the Dickens, and Troop 48 can do the 'other' (fundraise at Dickens, service at Art & Music). Troop Organization Discussion about the SPL election - decided to do runoff election (down to at least 2 boys, then vote - 3 boys or more if ties). Discussed new and existing patrols: boys don't know what patrols they are in! Discussed having committee approve "appointed" positions in the troop. SM/ASM will review position and ensure the boy's understanding and commitment to the job. Elected Bill Stiles to be new Adult Chaplin. Discussed lack of women adults in the troop - why? Training Events Reviewed the training events for adults. (see calendar). Need the safe swim, risk zone, others. Church Sponsorship: consider changing? Discussion about difficulties with us getting 'bumped' and other issues (basement too small for existing size of troop). Look into another venue for the basement Monday's. New Adult Preparation Decided on April 7th (same time as scout meeting) to do this presentation about the troop around 8pm. Outside Presentations during troop meetings Want to encourage more presentations to liven up the meetings. Any ideas? Discussed EMS presentation (Rich L), Appalachian Trail Walker (Bob G), Judo demonstration (Bill D.), others? Possible Jailhouse visit? Service Projects: Identifying and scheduling Eagle project - William Webber's is coming up - he will need to reserve weekends to do this project as our calendar is rapidly filling up! Open Discussions JLT one day training - plan now: Date 12-13 April - tentative at Pine Tree. Den Chief Program -> Marianne McCarthy MS150 - We decided to 'man the stations' for this charity event. Some people may ride as well (Rich Lewis et al). JLTC week long training - Robby G, Doug L, Mike C signed up - troop will subsidize $50 towards this for each youth. 2 per troop guaranteed in per council. Camera - Bill bought a replacement camera for the one that was lost. $150 plus $33 memory card - 2 mpixel Olympus D380. Membership - Dave Costello noted about 15-16 new scouts making 55 total for the troop and 51 adults registered. We were all grateful that we currently have more youth than adults! Check Passed - Bill Stiles gave a check for Okemo to Ed - there were 10 witnesses. Notebook for boys -> Discussion about Advancement - Discussed having a notebook for advancement to track by patrol leaders the status of youth in patrols. Tent Poles - Bob Gray noted tent poles bent from backpacking - need small bags to hold poles when tent is divided up for backpacking. Rich Lewis will look into getting some. Whitewater rafting trip - Bill D. asked when would be the best time (before have done Sat. biking, Sun. whitewater but its Mother's day...) Voted to have a Friday night sleepover, then whitewater on Saturday and return Sat night. NEXT COMMITTEE MEETING – was undefined at this meeting Meeting Adjourned Respectfully submitted – Bill Dreisbach |
