Quakesen District Fall Camporee Dear Scoutmasters and Senior Patrol Leaders of District 3, Fall Camporee is now almost 1 month away and Troop 34, Fort Dix, our host troop, is excited to share with you the history that is Fort Hancock. The theme will be "The Mystery of Orienteering". There will be a challenging Scavenger Hunt / Orienteering Course that will include the historic sites and displays located on Fort Hancock, to include the Sandy Hook Light House. Each Patrol will need to bring with them on the Hunt a compass and a Boy Scout Handbook. It would be helpful if they also brought along something to write with. If a troop would like to have an advanced senior patrol compete please let us know. We will have a more challenging course set out for them. If your troop would like to participate in the judged gateway competition you will need to bring along all the spars and rope needed to complete your project. Brush up on your knot tying skills. All projects must be lashed and completed by the scouts. No metal hinges, screws or nails will be allowed. The Cooking Competition will take place late in the afternoon. There will be two categories - Rome Irons and Utensiless Cooking. Each category will be broken down by - Breakfast, Lunch/Dinner, Dessert. The cooking competition will be judged on appearance and taste. During Saturday and Sunday morning there will be tours made available for you at the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, by the New Jersey Lighthouse Society and Battery Potter, by the Sandy Hook Volunteers. The Fort Hancock Museum will be open in the afternoons. Fishing is allowed in the bay and the ocean without permits from sunrise to sunset. Bring your rod and bait. |
