Troop 26 Committee Meeting - June 29, 2005 High Commander: Pete Detmering Others: Ed M., Phil G., Phil W., Cheryl , Sam R., Hugh, Dave C., Bill S., Phil G., Paul O. (late) 1) Treasurer's Report - Phil Gruender Fundraising, Seabase Payment Reconcilliation, Future Expenses $11332 in bank including Seabase Monies, $4440 Yawgoog, = NET $2317 T-shirts $455 to get these. Critically low probably around $1000 or so, not there yet, but if it does we should do more fundraising. Art & Music festival was low fund raising, also scouts are lower now. Art Festival donated $100 to troop. Art & Music festival - Investment in material this year $$, so not fair to this year's kids to next year's - so will split it between this year and next. (for credit to the scout's account) Either separate account or have a member of the crew handle the money. Need to separate hi-adventure trip monies from our budget. 2) Service Projects: Eagle, EMS, Church We don't get charged by EMS or Church - we should do some service to give back. Cabinet project for the storage area is being planned - Ed/Hugh - for EMS. 3 Eagle projects in the 'works': Kyle working on his writeup - canoe racks at a club at Centennial. Matt Styles - 2 phased project - shed for paddle boats. Beans - beautification project at school Chairville - flower beds around flagpole, etc. Probably August at the earliest. Idea: help an invalid wife mow lawn, mulch beds - good idea. Victor had good turnout - 9 boys. Matt's - few showed up for that one. Idea: Powerwash steps at the church. Also kids need hours for religious rewards - CCD and confirmation. Many other kids want done by 2006 their service projects. Youngkin wants to finish by Oct 2005 when he turns 18. Project: film for light rail system but may have issue filming at stations. 3) Yawgoog Update: Transportation, Adult Coverage, "Rules of the Road" Transportation needed - 21 kids plus others: Pete, Ed, Phil G. up for the week. Paul part of time. Barbara Schwait on way up, Leslie Perkins back. Hugh can go up Sunday. May need one for way back. George Y. may help on way back. Advancement plan - no PLC before Yawgoog. Craig Schwait unavailable. Many young scouts - need to be sure they take advantage of program. Last year took every boy thru the program - every boy got 1 rank, some two. Feedback: too overbearing on that. May have issue with 3 BOR adults. Rules of the road:: don't want repeat of last year. Discipline issues, etc. - need to state on Sunday with boys the rules. 4) Recognition Program: Eagle Board, Transfer of same from church? Will was last scout. Who else needs to go on the Eagle recognition board? Church people like that plaque, so we can leave it there. Ed noticed blank was missing. We have additional plaque. Matt is also not on there. Ed will take the plaque and get it figured out. Troop 26 was highest doner to FOS - we received a nice certificate. 5) New Scouts Parental Involvement discuss in August - see below. 6) Recruitment from Cubs, etc: Methods to do so (open house, specific activity/event, etc.) Den chiefs - we have lots of boys 2nd and 1st class - need leadership. Best way is to get kids involved with the cubs. That along with open house with Weblos should help. We need to target some packs. Only 6 kids in 300 in weblo II's. 108 - Jim Scott, then Pete, others had relationship - should target them. Can have event for 108. Can't go 2 years without any kids coming into the troop. Start with wolf or bear den and then oversee. Mariann McCarthy - only had her son - her best way was Den Chief method. At Yawgoog need to work with the kids to see if they want to help with Packs, maybe with an adult to assist. Oct 22nd is training for Den Chiefs. Cheryl volunteered to help liaison with adult Den leaders before labor day - organization meetings will be Aug or early Sep. Council starts recruiting in 2nd week in Sep. as recruitment week. ( ) Adult committee meeting - August - focus on recruitment. Need kids - what are your ideas? Also how to get new parents involved. Transition plan for adult leadership. Date is Aug 23rd Tuesday. Fishing in Sep. - invite a friend! Contact packs and find out when their meetings are. 108, 300, 26, etc. In August - build program: recruitment, den chiefs, talk to the pack about 'what the problem is', etc. 7) Transition Plan: Adult Leadership Issues Discussion of scoutmaster, committee chair, etc. transition plan - at some point people may want to change their role. Training is also needed. Think about the role, when each person wants to change, when others are interested in helping out, etc. 8) Open Discussion Dave C: needs to be the last signature on Eagle applications and also should turn them in. Troop Camera: now that it's back, who should take it? Camera to Paul O. Historian position could be critical to our recruiting efforts also. Troop Calendar: Need to start filling some dates… Aug 23rd is next meeting. Ed - roundtable report. - Farm - won't be there. - Jamboree - 27th & 30th - bus trip for the day - very limited!! - Aug 7th - Cambell field - get patch - Popcorn chairman needed by next meeting (Buzby last year) - 2 Woodbadge this fall. - Powder Horn Training - Jun 25-26, 2006 - Citta Scout Reservation End meeting respectfully submitted, Bill Dreisbach |
