2007 : First,
several important items:
- We
will be meeting at Extreme Ski & Sport
(Jersey Pools) on Stokes Road, Medford on Thursday evening
between 6:00 and 7:00. This will be the only opportunity to
get your skis, snowboards or other larger items like cots to Eric Smekal
(Zack's Dad) so he can take them up to Vermont in his truck. Please meet us
there between 6 and 7 so that we can get that cargo situated in his truck.
Eric is planning to leave the area at noon on Friday to head up to Vermont
so if you don't get items you want him to carry to him before then, you'll
have to accommodate them in the car you'll be traveling in.
Space for bags and cargo will be very limited so we request that you meet us
to get these items situated with Eric on Thursday evening.
Eric also will have some limited room for duffels or other bags in the cab
of his truck.
- Eric
and Zack will be arriving early in Vermont on Friday at Woodstock Union High
School to stake a claim on a good space for us to set up our cots, air
mattresses and sleeping bags.
- We
are planning to leave Medford to head up to Vermont no later
than 3:15pm on Friday. Please arrive at Medford
Methodist immediately after school lets out, and be ready to
go.
-
Please bring spending money for a meal on the way up on Friday evening,
lunch on the slopes on Saturday, brunch on Sunday and dinner on the way home
Sunday evening.
- Pack
light but remember enough winter sports appropriate clothing and layers for
skiing/boarding on two days. Don't forget extra socks and gloves as they
tend to get wet and may not dry out enough Saturday night.
Helmets are required for the boys as troop policy!! Please
don't forget them. Contact Matt Stiles (609.654.2034) or either Evan or
Thomas Priester (609.714.9654) if you'd like to borrow a helmet. They have
extras.
-
Remember there are gang showers in the high school for Saturday night. Boys
should bring bathing suits with their toiletries so they can shower. Also a
Ziploc for holding wet items for the trip home.
- If
you have not yet provided me with a Parental Consent form and Code of
Conduct (attached) signed by each boy and their parent(s), then have it for
me on Friday afternoon before we leave.
-
Guests of the troop that are traveling with us to Vermont will have to each
fill out a BSA Scout Application to have on file during the trip. This is
required for insurance purposes. These applications can be obtained from
Mr. O'Conner (856.988.1606).
- For
the Drivers, I have attached the directions that we will be following to get
to Vermont. Those directions contain the addresses for both the resort at
Okemo and Woodstock Union High School. Also included are mobile phone
numbers for each of the drivers.
-
Return will be late Sunday evening. We will have the boys call in route
when we're getting close.
That's
about all I can think of at the moment. If you have any further questions,
please e-mail me or call me (609.714.9654).
See you
all on Thursday and Friday!!!
Woody Priester
Please forward this
information along to the Hahn's and Jason Sharp. Thank you!
(PS Note to Parents:
There is a Troop Committee Meeting this week at the Medford EMS building on
Thursday evening at 7:00. Please plan to attend.)
Attached is
the list of attendees for the Okemo Trip. We are going to be tight for
space to accommodate all the boys and cargo. Eric has agreed to use the
bed of his pickup to hold all the skis and snow boards (no one is renting
at Okemo so we will have a load). We'll need to get creative to carry the
remaining cargo. If you can hold a car-top carrier, please consider
that. If we could find one more driver, with a SUV, van or truck, that
would make it a lot easier. Please ask around to see if there are other
adults that might consider going.
I'll have
more information on the logistics soon. We're looking at an early Friday
afternoon departure. We'd like everyone to be at the Methodist Church by
3:00pm for a departure as early as 3:15pm. Directions and more info to
follow...
Thanks!

Updated SKI TRIP info - Jan 31, 2007
Hello everyone!
I spoke to Paul tonight and have more information about the Troop 26 ski trip
this weekend that I wanted to pass along.
Paul O’Conner may or may not be along with us Friday night (TBD). If he does,
he most likely will not go with us to the slopes on Saturday but, it looks
like Ed Martino will be with us and most likely on the slopes on Saturday to
assist the boys with the Snow Sports merit badge.
For the trip up Friday evening, we should be fine from a space perspective
(drivers and gear) and have plenty of room for the boys in our cars. We plan
to grab a fast food dinner on the way up and will have snacks and cocoa/coffee
for later in the evening. We’ll be staying in small cabins that each have
bunks, running water, a stove, and (indoor) toilets. We’ll bring a few cots
just in case.
We have discussed two options for Saturday evening. Either leave the slopes
between 4:30 and 5:00 to head back to the cabins for dinner and overnight
stay, or allow the boys to stay on the slopes till 6:30pm (Shawnee has night
skiing) and then hop in the cars to head home. We’ll obviously make that
decision before we leave the cabins Saturday morning to head over to the
mountains. (if any parents have concerns with a Saturday evening return,
please let me know!)
Depending on our decision about staying Saturday night or not, we’ll plan for
Troop meals, a dinner Saturday evening and two breakfasts, one Saturday
morning and a quick one for Sunday morning. Other meals will be paid for by
the boys on the way up(and back) and in the lodge for lunch on Saturday.
Please make sure the boys have enough spending money to pay for two or three
meals.
We're planning to leave from Medford Methodist Church at 5:45pm Friday
evening. We’re asking everyone to have the
boys to the church
by 5:15pm!! Please make sure your son
has a signed
permission slip with him to save time. The permission slips are found
on the website:
http://www.troop26bsa.net/information.htm .
We should have almost perfect ski weather this weekend! Snow showers likely
Friday evening and then sunny conditions on Saturday with a high of about 35
degrees F. Make sure your boys dress warmly and bring appropriate clothing
for skiing on Saturday. Overnight lows will be well below freezing. Link to
