The meeting Thursday night was very productive. We went over a lot of items pertaining to the activities for the year, scout recruitment, and most important, parent involvement.
Activities:
The Klondyke Derby will be a day trio for the boys who are interested, on the last Saturday in February.
Spaghetti Dinner, camp over at Pine Tree to welcome new scouts is pending for March, either the weekend of 3/6 or 3/20.
We will try and schedule swimming qualification in April so they are set for camp. This will most likely be on a Sunday night, in lieu of Monday meeting.
Washington DC trip has been scheduled for an extended trip beginning 4/16, leaving mid day, with a full itinerary including the Pentagon, the Spy Museum, and Washington Monument. Price pending.

We are looking for scouts who want to go to Jambo! The news is, BSA is looking for ways to make the trip more affordable and enable the boys to raise money for the trip. Your Scout must be 14 years of ago by 2010 to attend. Please keep us posted if you are interested.
October of this year will be the "Big Event" celebrating 100 years of scouting. We will keep you posted on this event, but it promises to be a terrific event.

Parents:
Council now requires at least one of the chaperones or attending adults on every trip, be certified in Youth Protection and Hazardous Weather training. These certifications, as well as a few others, can be done on line at http://olc.scouting.org/. It takes about 20 minutes and you are given a certification you can print to have with you. We are asking that all troop parents become certified in these two areas.

Once the new scouts cross over into our Troop, we will be holding new parent meetings, to help guide them through the maze we call scouting. It is our priority to encourage a boy run Troop, but parents are a crucial support system.

There may be more, but my fingers are falling asleep. If you have any questions or comments (be nice!) drop me a line!

Regards,

Nancy Flynn
