November 11, 1997 : Letter from Brian McCarthy, JASM Troop 26

I would like to give a little message to everyone in the troop. I am very proud of troop 26. It's an institution that is older than many of the adults in the troop. I think that there are plenty of oportunities for advancement and fun. I am a bit disappointed though because the trip of late have not been well attended. I am a bit perplexed by this. That is because I love to go on the trips.  Unfortunatly, I have not been able to go on the last couple, but it breaks my heart to stay home. To me, the two best parts of scouting are going on trips and going to Yawgoog. (technically Yawgoog is a trip but I wanted to stress how great the camp is.) I like to go on the trips because:  1) You get to spend time with your friends. 2) You get to stay up as late as you want (as long as the adults don't find out) 3) You get out of the house for a while.  4) You get to make use of outdoor toilets! :)

I think that everyone should re-evaluate their decision to miss out on these great trips. Because I support these trips so much, I am willing to make a promotional offer. Everyone that goes on the next trip will get a pinecone!
If you are still reading this I would like to thank you for your effort. As I end this column I would like to remind you of a saying that a wise man (actually I have no idea if he was wise or not) once said: Scouting is three fourths Outing. Get it? THINK ABOUT IT!!!!
