2000 August Email Letter to Troop 26

Dear Scouts, Leaders, Hikers and Patch Collectors:

A fascinating activity for anyone interested in the history of an area is the walking or biking of a historical trail. Members of all ages of the Boy and Girl Scouting organizations utilize them as a part of their outdoor programs, and since each has at least one patch, medal or other souvenir available for purchase, it's an easy way to build up an interesting collection. Each has a written hike plan available from its sponsor, with instructions as to where to go and what you'll see. When I started as a volunteer leader, the hard part was finding out where I could get such plans. After years of collecting information, I now have file cabinets full and my units have benefited from many opportunities that haven't until now been adequately publicized. There are nearly 900 such trails across the country, including 12 in New Jersey, each offering patches, medals, and several other types of memorabilia, in addition to being enjoyable walks or bike rides through an area's history. A list of the current trails can be viewed at List of Current Trails .

I've gathered information on these trails and have compiled a 500+ page book entitled "Historic Hiking Trails", for sale in WordPerfect 5.1 format on a single computer disk. It easily converts to any of several other formats. It sells for $20 plus $1 P&H, and I can send it to you for a free tryout. After a week, if you want to keep it, you can send me a check. If you decide you don't want it, just send the disk back to me without any cost to you (except for the 33 cents return postage). More information on this book is available at Historic Hiking Trails . If you'll let me have your address, I'll put a disk in the mail to you right away. Need any information about hiking trails? Don't hesitate to contact me at rajtar@aol.com Steve Rajtar P.S. In the even the above links don't work on your browser, you can get there by going to the index at www.geocities.com/yosemite/rapids/8428.
