  • Bike Trip to Citta by William Webber (Nov 6-7, 1999)

Attending: Mr. Dreisbach, Mr. McCarthy, Mr. Rowand, Chris Doty, Jim Hassenmayer, Charlie Dreisbach, Kevin Leacock, Adam Winegar, Drew Winegar and William Webber.

We left Shawnee High School on Saturday morning, Nov 6th.  We had several rest-stops along the way.  We arrived in the evening and made delicious stew for dinner.  We went rifle shooting before dinner and also put up the tents.  We talked in front of the campfire before bed.

We had breakfast and took our tents down, put our supplies back in the trailer, policed the area and took our bikes to the ranger's office and went to the trading post.

We left for home at about 9:30 am.  Going home was mostly uphill and, to make it worse, the wind was pushing against you!  It was also a cold morning!  Home about 2:30 after rest stops.

Miles biked : 30 each way = 60 miles!!!

  • Tom McCarthy Awarded Quakesen District 3 Award of Merit (5-Mar-1999)

"The above candidate is awarded the "District Award of Merit" based on his Noteworthy Service to Scouts and the Scouting Movement.  He is registered as an Assistant Scoutmaster with BSA Troop 26, located in Medford, New Jersey.  He has atended and trained in the Youth Protection Program.  He is a registered Merit Badge counselor and his merit badge's include those required for young scout's who are working toward their Eaglebadge.  He is frequently called by the Burlington County Council to participate in the Merit Badge Forum as a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and teaching the merit badge.  In additin, he is used by his troop as a WSI.
He assists the troop in the Fund Raiser which is conducted yearly, raising money for the troop and its planned activities.  The scouts often seek his advice, his personality permits him to easily perform his obligation to the scouts and scouters.   However, he is no push over.  He attends troop camp-outs and voluntary stayed the entire week at summer camp for several years.  He has provided transportation to and from camps, much needed by all Scoutmasters, willingly.
He is an active member of Hunnick Lodge #76, Order of the Arrow.  His work with the Culinary Committee at the Spring Ordeal at Treasure Island will long be remembered by the other 2 adult advisors and 3 teen-age members of the committee.  At this Ordeal, over 190 Arrowmen and camp staff were fed (2 cracker barrels and 4 cooked nutritional meals).  He performs other tasks when asked by the lodge advisor or lodge chief.  He is a brotherhood member.
He attends troop committee meeings and his input is most helpful.  He attends the Holy Eucharist church regularly.  Regularly, he teaaches children to swim and he has been a coach for water activities and a WSI.  He has been an official referee at many water sports events.
On behalf of the Burlington County Council, Quakesen District, it is our pleasure to present the district award of merit to Thomas McCarthy."

  • Mr. McCrosson Awarded Quakesen District Award of Merit (March 1998)

"This individual has been an adult scouter for at least 12 years and has served in the following positions: Webelos leader, troop committee member, assistant scoutmaster, scoutmaster, and merit badge counselor. He is a brotherhood member of the order of the arrow, and serves on the culinary committee with Hunnikick lodge. This scouter has completed the scoutmaster fundamental course. Our scouter has earned his wood badge beads and is a member of the "Bob White" patrol. For several years he has helped the council especially district 3 receive food at a specified location on the council annual scouting for food drive. He chaired several yearly fundraising events for the scouts of his trooop, helping them earn money for scouting activities or equipment. This scouter carries forth the scout oath and law in his daily life and strives to set a good example for our youth. This person has a total commitment to developing the best in our youth and to ensure that our youth grow both as individuals and as good citizens. I might conclude that this person, as a youth, was a member of the same troop in which he presently serves. On behalf of the Burlington County Council, Quakesen District, it is our pleasure to present the district award of merit to Joseph McCrosson."

Congratulations Mr. McCrosson!

  • A Guide to Greener Camping (by Gary Thomas) Dec 1997

For those of you that have camped with the troop in the past, you will recall the bags of trash that we create by using paper goods for our meals. That is, we have the Styrofoam plates and plastic forks and a new cup for every cup of hot chocolate! Once we finish, cleanup is quick but we have created a "ton" of trash. The troop committee has taken the bold step to try to stop supporting Glad bags and landfills. Our proposal is to have the young men in the troop supply their own eating utensils and cups for all the outings in the future. The troop currently supplies all the cooking gear for the meals, so all the boys would need is an individual mess kit or a bowl, cup and spoon. This summer we did a 12 day backpacking trip at Philmont and a spoon, cup and bowl seemed to do very nicely. With the upcoming holiday season, this may be the perfect gift for the Scout in your life. Please be sure that the kits are personalized and feel free to contact any of the committee members if you have any questions. => For more information contact Gary Thomas.
